's election day. and the polls here in california just opened about 55 second ago. the months of campaigning the millions of dollars spent on ads comes down to this day. the presidential race remains a dead heat with the latest poll showing president obama and mitt romney still neck in neck in the all important battleground states. mitt romney voted this morning near his boston area home with his wife. romney is now heading to ohio and then pennsylvania where he is making last-minute campaign appearances. this was just announced yesterday before heading back to boston this evening. president obama is back home in chicago where he will watch the results come in later this evening. coming up at 7:15, we will have a guide to the key returns today and when we could know the results of the presidential election. >> time 7:01 you heard tori the polls opened moments ago here in california. we have reporters all over the bay area covering today's local, state and national issues. you see the reporters there tara and everybody else we will start with ktvu's at polling place in san jose good morning.

. we have a weak system here. you can see them brushing along the northern half of california and weakening the ridge. and temperatures for the afternoon will be slightly cooler and above the seasonal average. nice pleasant afternoon for your sunday. out outdoor. it is a chilly one. upper 30s and 40's. and 45 in novato and around the bay area. and it feels a little better. >> 52 san francisco and in oakland and upper 40s in and around fremont this morning. for the afternoon, expect the temperatures at 69 degrees for santa rosa and in san rafael. upper 60s expected in oaklandle and 65 for san francisco. 67 for concord and into pleasant ton for the afternoon. and livermore, the south bay looking good. 59 san jose. and 57 expected for san mateo. we get into monday, we will continue with the dry conditions. our temperatures will begin to dip in the overnight hours with the clouds increasing by tuesday. temperatures will feel better as we get out the door tuesday morning and into wednesday, the clouds will begin to thick thicken. and then we have rain. they want to bring the storm

california edison says the moving truck is longer than a football field. it will take about three weeks to reach utah. authorities say it creates low levels but is not expected to be dangerous. >>> well, back to baseball, melky cabrera, he was not on the playoff roster after he was reinstated following his suspension for steroids. but he will still get his payoff of $340,000. he would normally have made 72% of that. however, the rule mandates the full amount if the team plays ten games. he was eligible to come back and then the giants played ten games. >>> it losses like muni will be making a big statement because of vandalism. muni will have to pay $700,000 to replace that bus, one that was set on fire by the giants' fans after the giants won the world series. it turns out san francisco's policy does not cover buses set on fire. that's a blow to muni because they just spent about 300,000 refurbishing buses last year. >> all right. 7:21. it's mostly clear outside. in fact, some parts of the bay area could cup close to record- breaking temperatures. up next, steve paulson will tell us wh
